5 Must-Take Fall Pictures

Personal

Fall is here! It’s October, one of my favorite months of the year. The weather is starting to get cooler, and I think fall is at its best – cozy sweaters, orange and red trees, and pumpkin spice. I find this time of year inspires me to get my camera out more often to capture all the autumn magic. So, here are 5 Must-Take Fall Pictures. I will be trying to capture all of these myself, and you can follow along with my progress on Instagram!

1. Leaves

Whether you are admiring the changing colors, raking them into piles for jumping, crunching them under your feet, or throwing them at your sister, it’s fun to play in them and shoot them. Just don’t wait too long because you will blink and they might gone.

2. Pumpkins

One of our favorite family fall traditions is to visit a local pumpkin patch, ride the wagon out to the field, and search high and low for the biggest, best pumpkin to bring home. And one of my first “dates” with Phil actually included carving pumpkins. Photo Tip: to help your subject stand out from all the orange pumpkins, consider clothing in the complementary colors of purple or blue.

3. Back to School

When I was in grade school, going shopping for school supplies was one of my favorite days of the year. I would flip through the box of Lisa Frank sparkly folders and choose a couple favorites to start the year (anyone else Lisa Frank fans???). So, capture the fresh box of crayons, your kids getting on the bus, or the start of football season.

4. Costumes

My kids already have their costumes planned for treat or tricking and fall parties. Photo Tip: if your kids are too excited or full of sugar to take pictures that night, try dressing them up and strolling your neighborhood a day before or after. You can also get super creative, like my friend Karin, with post-processing to really give your pictures some magic.

5. Fall Treats

As the weather gets cooler, I find myself baking more often and reaching for my hot chocolate mug. Our fall family favorites are pumpkin bread, apple crisp, and snicker-doodles. Pick some of your favorite fall goodies, and document your memory-making!

If you take some of these Must-Take Fall Pictures, I’d love to see them! Tag me or send them to me! And to follow along with my Fall Pictures, head over Instagram: 🙂
