Photographing a surprise proposal is always so much fun. I love the buildup of anticipation for the big moment and capturing all the reactions and candid moments that follow. Emmett planned a gorgeous Middleton Place garden proposal to his girlfriend, Daniela, and it was perfect in every way!

He chose this location because of the beautiful and romantic garden setting. Middleton Place is “America’s oldest landscaped gardens” according to their website. The gardens are reminiscent of those found in Europe, especially England. The garden design includes geometry and balance, as well as focal points, and surprises along the way. I loved watching the hundreds of butterflies flutter between all the different flowers and bushes.

As Emmett and Daniela walked along a path in the garden, Emmett got down on one knee with Spanish moss covered trees and the Ashley River as the backdrop. It was a picture perfect moment! Daniela had no idea and was so surprised. Seeing her genuine reaction and pure happiness was priceless. I know this is one of the happiest moments in both of their lives and I am so thrilled they will have this moment and all the joy commemorated so they can look back and relive this moment in the years to come.

Not only did Emmett plan a wonderful surprise proposal, but he also picked out a stunning and unique engagement ring featuring, white gold with traditional diamond accents and the center diamond a dazzling bright blue.

After the initial shock of the proposal wore off, the newly engaged couple explored the gardens as I captured portraits of the two of them. At the end of the session they popped some champagne to celebrate, making it a perfect ending to a dream day!
