When flowers and family unite, magic happens! I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the Tolley Family for the third time. This garden family session was nothing short of enchanting. Abbie and her lovely daughters share a love for flowers, and this love brought them all the way from their home in New Hampshire to the vibrant azalea gardens at Middleton Place here in Charleston, SC.

The Tolley Family has their own garden at home in New Hampshire, where they grow a variety of beautiful flowers. During our last family session, I mentioned the blooming azaleas that grace Charleston every spring to Abbie, and from that moment, she knew she had to visit Charleston in the spring! Middleton Place is known as America’s oldest landscaped gardens and sits along the Ashley River. It is truly a sight to see! Middleton Place also features many other stunning flower displays throughout the year in addition to the spring azaleas.

Garden Family Session at Middleton Place

The original plan was for the Tolleys to visit Charleston at the end of March, but as nature often surprises us, the azaleas decided to bloom ahead of schedule, bursting with colors two to three weeks earlier than expected. I was sad at the thought of the Tolley family missing the breathtaking blooms. However, they made a last-minute decision to pack their bags, hop in the car, and head to Charleston from New Hampshire early, and I am so glad they did!

The sun bathed the gardens of Middleton Place the morning of their family session. The family’s love and excitement were visible as they explored the sea of over 100,000 purple, white, and pink azalea blooms! Their garden session was a dream come true. Abbie, Nick, and their daughters were radiant, their smiles as vibrant as the flowers surrounding them. I loved watching these two sisters twirl and dance around the gardens, smelling all the flowers, and just having fun! The magical garden setting not only provided a stunning backdrop but also allowed the Tolley Family to relax and enjoy each other admist the beauty of their surroundings.
