Family Session in Downtown Charleston French Quarter

I had the absolute joy of photographing the Rivers family for their summer session in downtown Charleston. This session was particularly special to me because Cassidy, Adam, and their son Bennett are friends from Ohio, where I lived for many years. Cassidy is also an amazing photographer herself. In fact, we’ve spent countless hours together at weddings, photography conferences, and retreats across the country. Needless to say, I was thrilled when she told me they were visiting Charleston and asked if I would capture their family session! It is always an honor when someone reaches out, but it means the world when a friend and fellow photographer trusts me to capture their precious memories!

Family Summer Session in Downtown Charleston

Cassidy knew exactly what she wanted for their session. Not only did she want beautiful family photos but she also wanted to capture iconic Charleston elements like the charming cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and the Spanish moss that hangs from the ancient oak trees. We got it all in their session!

The session started in the French Quarter in downtown Charleston. The cobblestone streets, pastel-colored houses, and historic charm created a beautiful setting. The family of three held hands and explored the area together. We also ventured to Hampton Park, where the Spanish moss and lush greenery provided a picturesque setting. I loved photographing Bennett as he climbed giant limbs on the ground and even ran around in the open space.

One of the highlights of shooting in Charleston during the summer is the colorful crepe myrtle trees that bloom in June and July. The pink, purple, and white blossoms transform the city into a fluffy, magical place, that is reminiscent of a second spring, without the milder temperatures. These stunning blooms made the perfect backdrop for the Rivers family’s portraits.

Despite the southern heat and humidity, we were able to capture incredible images that will serve as a lasting memory of their visit to Charleston.
